  • Q: Is there job-hunting support?
    A: Yes, we do.

    Q: Is there an EJU preparation course?
    A: Yes, we have an EJU preparation course as an elective class (subjects: Math, General Knowledge, Japanese).

    Q: Can I choose to be in either the morning or afternoon class?
    A: Unfortunately it is not possible. The school will designate your class accordingly.

    Q: Can I change my course?
    A: Unfortunately, no.

    Q: Is there any assistance in buying a SIM card?
    A: Yes, we will assist you with local SIM Card application before or after arriving in Japan.

    Q: Will I have assistance in opening a Japanese bank account?
    A: Yes, we will help you open a Japanese bank account.

    Q: How many students are there in a class?
    A: We have a strict policy of maximum 20 students per class.

    Q: Does the school help find part-time jobs?
    A: Yes, we occasionally have part-time job information sessions and we post part-time job listings from various industries.

  • Q: Is there an age limit for application?
    A: While we generally do not have a strict age limit, admission is determined by a careful review of your Japanese proficiency and post-study plans.

    Q: Are there scholarships?
    A: Students that satisfy certain conditions are eligible for a scholarship 6 months after enrollment. (Please refer to the Long Term Overview page for more details.)

    Q: Will there be any refunds if I withdraw from school within a year?
    A: Please check the School Regulations PDF for details on refunds.

    Q: Can I enroll without any prior Japanese study?
    A:Unfortunately, no. Applicants are required to have passed an A1 level test (JLPT N5 equivalent) or completed a minimum of 150 hours Japanese course.

    Q: Is it possible to study for only a year?
    A:Yes, however, if you do not fulfill the full length of your chosen course, we won’t be able to issue you a graduation certificate.

    Q: Can high school graduates apply?
    A:Yes, however, if you are planning to go on to higher education in Japan, you will need to complete 12 years of formal education.

    Q: Who can be the financial sponsor?
    A:Family members and/or you yourself can be a financial sponsor as long as you meet the requirements.

    Q: How much is the minimum amount needed for the proof of funds?
    A:If the sponsor is other than yourself, an annual income and savings of each at least 2 million yen equivalent is compulsory. If you are self-sponsoring, an annual income and savings of each at least 2.5 million yen equivalent is compulsory. Please consult with us for more details.

    Q: Can I use documents issued 6 months prior to the application?
    A: Generally, no. With the exception of some documents that are only issued once (such as diplomas, JLPT certificates, etc.), all supporting documents must be issued within 3 months.

  • Q: Can I pay the tuition fee in installments?
    A: Yes, but only for the second year payment. A 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year payment options are available. Please be advised that there will be small extra fees for the installments.

    Q: What are the payment methods?
    A: We accept payments via overseas bank transfer, Flywire, and domestic bank transfer. However, we strongly recommend Flywire due to efficiency and to avoid additional incoming remittance fees often associated with standard overseas bank transfer.

    Q: What is Flywire?
    A: It is a secure and reliable service (website) that lets you pay the school fees in your local currency to a local bank. It provides greater efficiency, allows you to track your payment status online, and ensures that the full amount of the school fee will reach Kyoto Minsai.

    Q: Are there additional payments after enrollment?
    A: Depending on the situation, there might be additional payments such as EJU exam fees, or other official government procedures (visa renewal, etc.).

  • Q: Can we buy Halal Food?
    A: Yes, there are various Halal food stores in Kyoto. We also sell Halal snacks in our school.

    Q: Do I need health insurance?
    A: All international students will be enrolled into two types of insurance: the National Health Insurance from the Japanese government and the International Student Insurance from a private company. For more details, please consult with us.

    Q: Can we use student discount in local establishments?
    A: In general, as a Japanese language school student it is not possible. However, depending on the establishment it might be possible.

    Q: Can I buy a student commuter pass?
    A: In general, it is not possible.

    Q: Do I have to take a health checkup after enrollment?
    A: Yes, you will be required to take a group medical checkup at the school after enrollment. The next medical checkup will be conducted in a year, and those who are eligible will be notified in advance. This is mandatory under the certification standards from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

    Q: When can I use the International Student Insurance?
    A: You can use it when you have accidents (ex: when you injure someone), cause damage to property, or incur medical bills that cost 1,000 yen and up. Coverages include: cold, influenza, COVID-19, single-party accidents, injuries, eye inflammation, ear inflammation, gastroenteritis, cystitis, shingles, etc. NOT covered: dental treatment, vision treatment, gynecology, cosmetic treatment (including for acne), anemia, psychiatrist, insomnia, general acupuncture/moxibustion/massage, osteopathic clinics, pre-existing conditions from your home country, designated intractable diseases, etc.

    Q: Can I do part-time job?
    A: If you obtain the "Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted", you are allowed to work up to 28 hours per week. During long-term school breaks, you may work up to 40 hours per week. However, you are not allowed to exceed 8 hours of work each day.

  • Q: Does the school provide accommodation?
    A: Yes, we are currently managing approximately 400 rooms.

    Q: How much is the average rent per month?
    A: For shared occupancy rooms, rent starts from around 30,000 yen per month. For single occupancy rooms, rent starts from around 40,000 yen per month.

    Q: Is the accommodation furnished?
    A: It is semi-furnished with a bed frame, futon (Japanese style mattress), small desk, chair, refrigerator, washing machine, stove, and curtains.

    Q: Does the accommodation have private/in-room washing machines?
    A: Most of the rooms are equipped with in-room washing machines unless stated otherwise.

    Q: Are the bath and toilet separate?
    A: Unfortunately, no. All accommodations are equipped with "unit baths," so the bath and toilet are not separated.

    Q: Is there Internet in the accommodation?
    A: Single occupancy rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi internet. However, some of the shared occupancy rooms aren’t. In such cases, students must arrange an Internet contract by themselves.

    Q: Can I move out of the school accommodation?
    A: The earliest you can move out is 6 months after moving in.

    Q: How many times can I move between accommodations managed by the school?
    A: As a general rule, only once. However, it will always depend on certain conditions and circumstances.
