School History
Principal Masamichi Yamamoto opened Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School on October 9, 2001, at 2 Nishishichijo Higashiishigetsubocho, Shimogyo Ward in Kyoto City.
In March 2004, Kyoto Minsai moved to its current Tenjingawa Campus location.
On June 12, 2007, Kyoto Minsai changed from a privately owned business to a corporation, changing its name to Kyoto Minsai Co., Ltd.
In April 2009, a Japanese Language Teacher Training Course was offered at our Nishioji campus. Professor Fumio Tamamura, professor emeritus at Doshisha University, served as the course director.
From 2001 to 2010, Kyoto Minsai recruited students twice a year (April and October). From 2011 to the present, Kyoto Minsai expanded its recruitment of students to four times a year (January, April, July, and October).
Our current students come from around 50 countries across six continents.
Our current Ministry of Justice-approved enrollment capacity is 813 students (Approved October 2023).
As of April 2025, our institution has been officially certified as both a Registered Practical Training Institution and a Registered Japanese Language Teacher Training Institution.
Beginning with the October 2025 intake, Kyoto Minsai will become an accredited institution by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and will offer three courses: Academic Course, Business Preparation & Communication Course, and Japanese Language & Culture Course.
